Rox keep rolling against the Bees
Brockton, MA – The Brockton Rox have extended their winning streak to three games following a 7-4 win against the New Britain Bees on the Fourth of July. The Rox have turned into an entirely new team following the calendar flip into July, posting a record of 3-0 and having the second-best record in the FCBL in the most recent ten games played. Since this game was played during the day, having a post-game firework display was out of the cards. Despite that, the Rox batters entertained the crowd of about 1467 at Campanelli with a firework display of their own coming from their own batters’ box.
Brockton demonstrated a lot of improvement in terms of their abilities at the plate. Andy Martin (Dyersburg State C.C.) started his day with a triple and was eventually driven in after a sacrifice fly out from Manny Ramirez Jr. (Tallahassee C.C.) to give the Rox an early lead. Jaden Sheffield (Georgetown) would get the Rox started in the bottom of the second inning with a leadoff double. A single that traveled into the outfield from the bat of Eric Volpi (St. Thomas Aquinas) allowed Sheffield to score from second base and give Brockton a 2-0 lead. Andy Martin would strike again later in the bottom of the third inning with a solo homerun to left field that would travel over the New Britain bullpen to extend the lead for Brockton.
The first New Britain run of the day came in the top of the fourth inning, and that wouldn’t be the only run scored that inning for the Bees. New Britain would even the score before the end of the inning and Kade Foulke (Galveston) would have his day cut short. Foulke remained in the game for the Rox for three and one third innings, allowing two hits, two runs, and striking out five New Britain batters. He would be replaced with right-handed pitcher, Michael Quigley (UConn) to finish the remaining two thirds of the inning and continue until the end of the eighth inning.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning, Jack Doyle (Northeastern) hit a single into left field which scored two Brockton baserunners, giving the Rox the lead once again. The Rox would call Max Pierce (Wheaton) into the game from the bullpen in the top of the ninth inning to close it out for Brockton. Headed into the bottom of the seventh inning, Brockton held a 5-3 lead over the Bees, which was to close for comfort. The Rox continued to perform on the offensive end, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to extend their lead after Sheffield would single to third base, driving in a run for the Rox, and Ryan Donnelly (Sacred Heart) would hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field, scoring Pedro Martinez Jr. (Lynn).
New Britain would score an additional run in the top of the ninth, but that wasn’t enough to defeat the Rox. Brockton will host the Sea Unicorns on Wednesday at Campanelli Stadium and attempt to keep this winning streak alive in front of their home crowd.
