GAME SUMMARIES

After going 7-1 in the first week and a half, the Rox cooled off as their 8 game winning streak was snapped and they ended with three losses in their last four games.

After an off day on Monday to start the week, the Rox bats came alive against the Westfield Starfires as the Rox exploded for 13 runs to win by the 10-run rule. The Rox fell behind early but scored all 13 runs in the 3rd through 7th innings as they hit the run rule in walkoff fashion. Offensively, Mike Golankiewicz, unsurprisingly, starred as he was a double away from the cycle with 5 RBI, becoming the league leader in both HR and RBI after the game and brought his average up to .643. Dillon Ryan went 6 innings in the win, while Jon Campbell Jr. made his debut in the 7th inning.

The winning streak came to a halt as the Rox traveled to Westfield on Wednesday, as Eddie Curley was hit hard by Westfield allowing 7 runs, which included a Jaden Brown homerun and 6 RBI from Cam McIntosh. Ben Rounds went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles in the loss. Avery Mabe and Thomas Kierce were solid in relief, but Holden Ferrari gave up the runs to lead to the 10-run rule to end the game.

The Rox returned home to start a two game series against Vermont who was coming in on a 5 game winning streak themselves. This game was ugly, with no runs scoring on hits in the game. Vermont’s runs came from three bases-loaded walks, a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch and an error. For the Rox Ryan Bruning and Colton Carson starred in relief of starter Ben Reyes as they combined for 5 no walk innings, allowing just 1 run. Juaron Watts-Brown finished off the game in the ninth allowing one run. On the offensive side of the ball, the Rox totaled 5 hits, and never threatened offensively.

Game two against Vermont was a better played ballgame by the Rox as every player in the lineup reached base. Erick Ramirez and Pat Roche had a double each in the 5th. What was a close game was blown open late as Leif Bigelow was hit hard by a barrage of hits for the Rox. Jack Snook was again brilliant in the win going 5 and a third allowing one unearned run. Michael Gemma, Jon Campbell Jr., and Randall Perrin ended the last 4 and 2/3 innings with no hit baseball.

After a postponed game on Saturday, the Rox visited Worcester on Saturday and lost in a game that the Bravehearts jumped ahead in the fifth with four runs off starter Mike Belcher and reliever Mike Dragon. A late comeback attempt was moot as Jonathan Santucci closed the door for the save. Colton Carson pitched a perfect inning of relief. Aidan Harrington and Ben Rounds both doubled in the loss.

STATS

Mike Golankiewicz leads in two of the triple-crown categories with a .483 average and 3 HR, but has been passed by teammate Ben Rounds as the RBI leader with 15. Jack Snook continued his strong start to the season as he still leads the league in ERA for qualified pitchers at 0.00. Dillon Ryan also finds himself top 5 in ERA and strikeouts. The Rox continue to have the highest team OBP and SLG in the league. In the standings the Rox hold on to a half game lead over the Pittsfield Suns, while Vermont, Norwich and Worcester lurk not far behind.

AWARDS

Ben Rounds won the player of the week as he went 7-15 (.467), with 4 doubles, 5 runs and 9 RBI, as he turned things around from his prior slump
Mike Golankiewicz won player of the night again on 6/8 with a 3-4 day with a HR, a 3B, a 1B, 3 R, and 5 RBI. He became the first player ever to win three consecutive player of the night awards.
