Brockton, MA – The Brockton Rox can move forward into their next matchup against the Silver Knights with confidence after putting an end to their five-game losing streak following a much-needed win against the Westfield Starfires on Wednesday evening.
Michael Quigley (UMASS Lowell) had a sensational outing on the mound for the Rox in his third appearance of the season, pitching six innings and managing to keep Westfield scoreless. Quigley recorded twelve strikeouts throughout his six innings and allowed only one hit to the Starfires offense.
The Starfires claimed the lead in the top of the eighth inning after a two-run homerun from Westfield’s Jackson Hornung (Skidmore College), but the Rox continued to fight. The first signs of life came from a single to the outfield from Eric Volpi (St. Thomas Aquinas College). Pedro Martinez Jr (Lynn University) replaced Volpi on the base path and placed himself in scoring position after attempting to steal second, which was overthrown into the outfield, allowing Martinez Jr to advance to third. Cody Kashimoto (Saint Mary’s College) was hit by a pitch, placing him on first base. Martinez Jr and Kashimoto were both driven in by Jack Doyle (Northeastern University) to end Brockton’s losing streak.
Brockton will play as the away team in their next game against the Nashua Silver Knights on Thursday, and will return to Campanelli Stadium on Friday, June 15th to begin their seven-game home stand against the Pittsfield Suns.
