Brockton Splits Double-Header against New Britain

Bees take the first but the Rox come buzzing back in game two

Brockton, MA – The Brockton Rox split their two-game double header with the New Britain Bees on Tuesday at Campanelli Stadium. Following this one-day mini-series, the Rox record now stands at 9 wins and 20 losses, slotting the Rox in eighth place in the Futures Collegiate Baseball League standings.

The first game of the day was won by New Britain with a final score of 7-3. The first run of the day was scored by Brockton, coming from a Mike La Rocca (SNHU) double to right field which scored Chenar Brown (Jackson State). The Bees were quick to answer, scoring four runs in the top of the third inning. New Britain would go on to score three more unanswered runs until the bottom of the seventh inning where Brockton made a solid attempt at a comeback, after Eric Volpi (St. Thomas Aquinas) hit a two-run homerun. However, New Britain refused to give Brockton an edge and held on to win the first game.

The Rox managed to claim the victory in the second game of the day against the Bees with a final score of (4-3). Brockton’s bullpen played an important role in the win, with an excellent performance from starting pitcher, Charlie Walker (Northeastern) and relief pitching from Eric Schroeder (Boston College) and Kevin Moszkowicz (UMASS Dartmouth). Walker remained in the game for six innings while only allowing six hits and one run. The Rox hitters had an outstanding game, recording back-to-back home runs in the bottom of the first inning, provided by none other than Brown and Volpi. The Rox were able to maintain their momentum into the sixth inning where they added two more runs to their total following a wild pitch which allowed Cody Kashimoto (Saint Mary’s) to score from third after getting on base via a single to left field, and a single from Andy Martin (Dyersburg State Community College), which scored Ryan Donnelly (Sacred Heart University) from third base.

New Britain made a valiant effort at a comeback scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but this run coming too late in the game to make a real difference allowing Brockton to hold on to win the game.

Brockton will travel on a five-game road stretch that will last the remainder of the week and will return home to Campanelli Stadium on Monday July 4th for an afternoon game against the New Britain Bees on Independence Day.
