Andy Martin Hits Two Home Runs in Win against Worcester

Rox bats wake up in rout of Bravehearts

Brockton, MA – The Brockton Rox turn the calendar over from June to July and seem to have left their struggles behind them. The Rox have had difficulty in the month of June, sitting in last place in the FCBL standings with a record of 6-20 while recording a .228 batting average and allowing a .303 average to opponents. Brockton started off the month with a much-needed win against the Worcester Bravehearts and found plenty of success at the plate tonight, hitting three home runs in their first win of this road trip.

Andy Martin (Dyersburg State C.C.) lead of the game and provided the spark that the Brockton dugout has needed after hitting a solo home run to start off the day for the Rox. After Worcester would even the score in the bottom half of the inning, Martin would have his second at bat of the game in the next inning, and once again demonstrated his abilities as an elite player in this league by hitting a three-run home run over the left field fence to give Brockton an early 4-1 lead.

Pedro Martinez Jr. (Lynn) joined in on the action in the fourth inning with a solo home run of his own to give Brockton a 5-2 lead. The Bravehearts would add a few runs of their own to the scoreboard in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut into the deficit but would still trail 6-4 and were unable to produce any more runs in the remaining four innings. Martinez Jr. and Richie Carey (Penn State Altoona) would each have RBI singles in the top of the eighth inning to extend the lead for the Rox, and both crossed the plate to score themselves after a base hit from Peter Messervy (Harvard).

Brendan Walker (Stetson) would remain in the game for seven innings while only allowing four runs and striking out three Bravehearts batters. He would be relieved by Tommy O’Sullivan (Adelphi) who held Worcester to one hit while recording five strike outs in his two innings on the mound.

Brockton would claim a well-deserved victory with a final score of 11-4 after nine innings and look to carry the momentum that was generated tonight into the remainder of this road trip and the rest of the season.

The Rox will travel back to New Britain on Saturday to compete against the Bees for the second time in three days while looking to get a winning streak going and turn a subpar season into something special.
